Typing
Touch typing for people who write descriptions, scripts, and captions all day
Home row, accuracy before speed, and why a 60-second test is a snapshot — not a career metric. How the lessons on this site are structured.
Updated 2026-08-29
If you write titles, descriptions, community posts, scripts, and emails, typing speed is not a party trick. It is how long the boring part of the job takes. This site’s typing tools are lessons, drills, a timed test, a finger map, a local progress log, and two games. They are built for a physical keyboard. This page is how to use them without turning WPM into a personality.
Accuracy, then speed
Chasing 90 WPM with 82% accuracy means you spend the gains on backspace. Aim for mid-90s accuracy on the home row before you care about a test score. The lessons go home row → top → bottom → numbers → words → sentences → speed. Skip ahead only if you can already hit those keys without looking.
Touch typing means the F and J bumps are home. Looking at the keyboard is allowed while you learn; looking at the screen for the next word is the point. The on-screen keyboard highlights a finger so you can cheat visually without moving your hands.
Progress is stored in this browser’s localStorage. Clearing site data clears the streak. There is no cloud account to restore it. That is intentional.
Practice on text you actually type
Random word lists train letter sequences. Creator work is captions, hooks, and paragraphs with URLs and numbers. Practice mode includes those textures, plus a weak-key drill and a custom paste box. If your error heatmap hates “c” and “m”, drill those; do not only replay the test you already memorized.
A 60-second test is a snapshot. Take it after a week of lessons, not every twenty minutes. Warm hands and familiar passages inflate the number. Treat 60 WPM / 95% as a solid creator work rate; treat 40 WPM as a reason to stay on lessons, not as a moral failure.
Phones are the wrong device
The pages render on a phone. Muscle memory for touch typing does not. Use a laptop or an external keyboard. Games (falling words, word attack) are for short sessions when drills feel dead — they still want a real keyboard.
What these tools are not
They are not a certified exam, not a job-test replica, and not a medical program for RSI. If your wrists hurt, stop and change hardware or posture; a WPM graph will not fix that. They also do not sync across devices. If you need a classroom roster, you want a different product.
