LUFS means Loudness Units relative to Full Scale. It measures how loud audio sounds over time, using a weighting that follows human hearing, and is not the same as the highest peak. Integrated LUFS is a single value for the whole file.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The file is measured in your browser with FFmpeg. It is not sent to our server. The first measurement downloads the FFmpeg engine, which is about 30 MB.

What loudness should I aim for?

It depends on where the audio is going. Levels around −14 LUFS are often quoted for music and video platforms, around −16 LUFS for podcasts, and −23 LUFS for EBU R128 broadcast. These are reference points, and platforms change how they handle loudness, so check the guidance of the one you use.

True peak estimates the highest level the audio reaches once it is converted back to an analog signal, which can be above the highest sample. Keeping it a little below 0 dBTP, for example under about −1 dBTP, leaves room so the audio does not distort after it is encoded.

What is loudness range?

Loudness range (LRA) shows how much the loudness changes through the file, in LU. A small value means it stays at a similar level, and a large one means big differences between quiet and loud parts. Neither is wrong, since different kinds of audio have different goals.

Can I measure a video file?

Yes. The tool measures only the sound of the video.

Why did the measurement fail?

The file may not decode, or it may be silent, since a silent file has no loudness to measure. Try a WAV or MP3 version, a shorter file, or reload the page.

Does it make my audio louder?

No. It only measures. Change the level in your audio editor and measure again.

Is it a broadcast compliance meter?

No. It is a free helper for creators. For broadcast delivery, use certified meters and your broadcaster’s specification.

What is the file size limit?

About 200 MB. Long files take longer because the whole file is scanned.
