Good to know
- CTR is clicks ÷ impressions × 100. An impression is a thumbnail shown to a viewer, and a click is a viewer opening the video. YouTube Studio shows both for each video, under Analytics, Reach.
- There is no good or bad CTR. It depends on where the impressions came from, such as Home, Search or Suggested, and on the audience. The fair comparison is with your own other videos, so use the box below.
- The range is a guide to how unsteady a small sample is. It treats each impression as a separate try, which is not exactly true, so do not read it as a promise.
- A higher CTR is not always better. A thumbnail that promises more than the video delivers can raise CTR and lower how long people watch.

About the CTR Calculator
?What the CTR calculator does
It works out click-through rate from impressions and clicks: clicks ÷ impressions × 100. An impression is a time your thumbnail was shown, and a click is a viewer opening the video.
It also shows how unsteady the number is on a small sample, and what a one-point change would mean in clicks. It does not say whether the CTR is good, because that depends on where the impressions came from. Everything runs in your browser.

★Examples
A basic CTR
25,000 impressions and 1,100 clicks.
Example:
1,100 ÷ 25,000 × 100 = 4.40%.
What a point is worth
The same video with 25,000 impressions.
Example:
One more percentage point of CTR would be about 250 more clicks.
A small sample
A video with 300 impressions and 20 clicks.
Example:
The CTR is 6.67%, but the range is wide. Wait for more impressions before changing the thumbnail.
♥Limits to know about
No good or bad CTR
Home, Search and Suggested traffic have different click rates.
Clicks are not watching
Check average view duration so a high CTR is not from a promise the video does not keep.
The range is a rough guide
It treats every impression as independent, which is not exact.
