Start with a verb.

A short noun phrase.

A full sentence, and true.

Enter what your video is about to see opening lines.

Before you film
  • Say the hook out loud before you film it. If it feels awkward to say, rewrite it in your own words.
  • The hook has to match your title and thumbnail. If it promises something the video does not deliver, viewers leave.
  • Only use a Proof line that is true. Never invent a result, a number or a story.
  • Get to the point quickly. Skip a long channel intro before the first useful thing.
  • Check the audience retention graph in YouTube Studio to see where viewers leave, and test a different opening on your next video.

About the Video Hook Generator

?What the hook generator does

You type what your video is about, and the tool writes opening lines in five styles: direct, question, promise, problem and proof. Each line is a template filled with your words, and you can edit it in place.

It does not use YouTube data or a language model, and it never makes up a story or a result. A first-person claim appears only when you type it into the Proof field.

Everything runs in your browser. What you type is not sent to our server.

→How to write a video hook in 4 steps

1

Describe the video

A short phrase such as “healthy meal prep”. Topics that start with “how to”, are a question, or look like “A vs B” get lines built for them.

2

Choose the video type and styles

Tutorial, review, or story. Turn styles off if you already know what you want.

3

Add what you know

What viewers will be able to do, a problem the video solves, or a true result of yours. Each one unlocks its own style. Leave them empty if you have nothing to say.

4

Edit, check the time, and copy

Change any line so it sounds like you. The tool shows about how many seconds it takes to say. Copy one line or all of them.

✓What is in the tool

Five styles

Direct, question, promise, problem and proof, mixed across the ones you leave on.

Topic-aware lines

How-to topics, questions, comparisons and “best” lists each get their own wording.

Only your facts

No invented stories, tests or numbers. Your promise, problem and proof are used as you typed them.

Spoken time

Shows about how long each line takes to say, at 150 words a minute.

Editable lines

Each hook is a text box you can rewrite in your own voice.

No score

There is no rating, because no template can predict retention.

★Examples

1

A tutorial

Type a how-to topic.

Example:

Topic “how to grow on youtube” can give “In this video, I’ll show you how to grow on YouTube.” and “Want to know how to grow on YouTube?”.

2

A review

Choose the Review type. A trailing “review” is removed from the line.

Example:

Topic “iPhone 16 review” can give “Is iPhone 16 actually worth it?” and “Here’s my honest take on iPhone 16.”.

3

Using your own details

Fill in the optional fields and the matching styles appear first.

Example:

Promise “plan a week of lunches” gives “By the end of this video, you’ll be able to plan a week of lunches.”. Problem “burnt rice” gives “Dealing with burnt rice? Here’s what to do.”.

♥Limits to know about

✓

Templates, not research

The tool does not look at your audience, your niche or your analytics.

✓

Match the packaging

A hook has to fit the title and thumbnail, and the video has to deliver what it says.

✓

Your voice matters

Say each line out loud. If it sounds unnatural, rewrite it.
